Encore Q&A Session for CSM Course

by Andrea Miller | Feb 20, 2021

The presenters of the  APTA CSM education session, Having Difficulty Removing the Kid Gloves? Implementing High-Intensity Training? will be hosting an additional live Q&A on Tuesday, February 23 at 8:00 pm ET.

The video of the initial presentation, NE-7395, is available to CSM registrants at 2021 Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) (confex.com). Emerging research on the effects of maximizing stepping practice during high-intensity training in neurologic and geriatric rehabilitation indicates a substantial influence on walking gait speed and endurance, compared with conventional interventions. These strategies were also recommended in recent clinical practice guidelines for locomotor training in ambulatory patients with acute-onset neurologic injury. Despite these resources, the lack of translation of these strategies across neurologic and geriatric rehabilitation settings indicates that patients may not benefit from available research without directed efforts to ensure implementation. Unfortunately, there are few resources that focus on strategies to facilitate implementation of evidence into clinical practice. Speakers will provide an overview of the rationale and evidence underlying HIT along with strategies to facilitate implementation into the clinical setting. Barriers and facilitators in different settings will be discussed, along with novel approaches that leverage insights from behavioral economics to “nudge” clinicians towards choosing guideline-consistent interventions. Therapists will take away specific strategies with demonstrated success in inpatient and outpatient settings and learn about implementation efforts in long-term care (residential) facilities and in home health. Presenters will examine the similarities and differences between these facilities working towards these common goals, to help facilitation in local settings.
