Our clients with neurologic deficits require unique, customized and adaptable equipment to meet their individual goals for independence.  Ginger states, “I believe wheelchair seating and mobility is a critical, and a very practical, part of our neurologic physical therapy practice, as it directly impacts our client’s health, function, and participation outcomes.”

Ginger is the Director of Clinical and Technical Education at Permobil placing her on the cutting edge to see the evolution of technology and how we as Physical Therapists impact the delivery and use of these adapted technologies.

With her role at Permobil, she is involved with education on the clinical application of seating and wheeled mobility product solutions that many of our neurologic patients “use all day, every day.”  Specifically, the Education Team develops and provides clinical and product training, so clinicians can better connect their clients’ needs to product features for best outcomes - from evaluation to delivery/training.  This clinical team also contributes clinical input to product development, participates with research, advocacy, and dialogs with consumers.

She desires for neurologic physical therapy practice to also evolve and “own” this part of our practice as a physical therapy intervention in each plan of care for every client who needs wheeled mobility.  As the SIG chair for ANPT’s Assistive Technology/Seating and Wheeled Mobility, she is diligently working to provide these opportunities for resources and networking with therapists also with this passion.

Ginger advocates, “I believe that all our clients have a right to client-centered, best-practice technology interventions that will facilitate their best health, function and participation outcomes.  Wheelchair/seating technology has evolved tremendously.  We need to ensure that neurologic physical therapy practice also evolves and owns this part of our practice as a physical therapy intervention in every plan of care for every client who needs wheeled mobility.”

Thanks for your service Ginger!
