From 2016 to 2019 the Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) Task Force worked, and is working, to identify resources to assist ANPT Members address the HPW goals of ourpatients/clients.


Existing Resources:

The HPW Task Force noted that there are many external resources freely available. Here are links to some of the most helpful resources for physical therapists, with brief descriptions of what is available. If you are aware of a freely available resource that you think should be added to this list, please contact one of the Task Force Co-Chairs (see below).
  • The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force provides evidence-based recommendations about clinical prevention services.
  • The National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) includes information for healthcare providers, fitness professionals, and people with disabilities on accessible fitness options.
  • There are many anti-smoking websites, but provides strategies to help people quit smoking.
  • Most conditions treated by physical therapists have a non-profit patient advocacy organization that provides tailored resources for their stakeholders.

Ongoing Task Force Efforts:

The following activities are currently being addressed by the task force. Please reach out to the Task Force Co-Chairs if there are other areas that you think the task force should address.
  • Developing presentation content for 2 hours of webinars on HPW topics and a 2 day educational course that will be a part of CSM 2019 preconference options, and has the potential to become a traveling regional course.
  • Facilitating the development of disease-specific documents by the ANPT Special Interest Groups.
  • Curating a list of specific resources available through NCHPAD.
